| Programmers:
Computer avengers. Once members of that group of high school
nerds who wore tape on their glasses, played Dungeons and Dragons,
and memorized Star Trek episodes; now millionaires who create
"user-friendly" software to get revenge on whoever
gave them noogies. |
"Knowledge
is happiness, because to have knowledge - broad deep knowledge
- is to know true ends from false, and lofty things from low.
To know the thoughts and deeds that have marked man's progress
is to feel the great heartthrobs of humanity through the centuries;
and if one does not feel in these pulsations a heavenward striving,
one must indeed be deaf to the harmonies of life."

| PUZZLE |
| This
puzzle is the first one presented in Edward De Bono's book
"The Five Day Course in Thinking." It is excellent
for stretching the mind. Go to his site from my links page,
for possibilities in purchasing this book or any of his other
excellent books on creative thinking processes.
You
need to visualize three soda bottles with narrow necks and
four table knives. Place the three bottles on a flat surface
so that each bottle forms the corner of a triangle. The distance
between the bases of any two bottles should be slightly more
than the length of a knife.
Using
only the four knives, construct a platform on top of the three
bottles. No part of any knife may touch the ground. The platform
must be strong enough to support a full glass of water. |
